![]() It was very straight forward and simple and most importantly it works! I was pretty proud of myself. Recently I made my own lamp out of a water jug and used a lamp kit. I usually supply the chain and kit, but they can provide that too. I found a local electrician that will put a light on a plug for me for about $25 per fixture. Sometimes I will buy lengths of old gold chain on eBay for this purpose if I want to keep the vintage vibe of a light. You can pick which color chain best matches your fixture. The kits cost less than $20 and comes with a plug, wire, and various colored chain. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, and you feel comfortable doing this, you can buy a swag kit from the hardware store and put the fixture on a plug at home. Currently it lights up my gift wrapping station as there is no other light in the closet. Here is one of my petite chandeliers that I had put on a plug. Then all you need to do is plug it in and swag it over. Most any electrician will gladly put a chandelier on a plug for you for a small fee. (that was extra, because who wants that, right?) So, in a few rooms, I wanted a light and this was the easiest way to add wattage and bling. Often, like in our current house, the builder didn’t put a light box in the ceiling of every room. ![]() ![]() How do you put a a chandelier on a plug and why? Well, I’ve had several of my chandeliers put on plugs over the years. Naturally that means crystal chandeliers! So, how to put a chandelier on a plug? And, why? Let’s find out! It will look like a regular old light switch.Happy Tuesday! With 9 months and a few days to go until the wedding, we still have LOTS to do! (I have a wedding countdown app on my phone.) We are in the very early planning stages, but meanwhile I am busy working on the lighting for the engagement party and the wedding. You just plug the chandelier into the box that comes in this set and attach the remote to the wall using velcro command strips. If you really want to feel like you are living large in a rental, ? you can get a special switch/plug combo that is even dimmable so that you won’t have to unplug your chandelier every time you use it. Screw in the hook at the edge of your wall to attach the chain allowing some swag. Step FourĪttach the black wire of the swag kit to the black wire of the chandelier using the wire nuts provided with the kit. Step ThreeĪttach the swag light kit chain AND the chandelier to the mounting bracket. It is now ready for you to hang the light exactly like you would hang it if there were a power box. Attach the mounting bracket directly to the ceiling stud and screw in the nipple from your light fixture. ? Measure the distance to the nearest plug, like I explained above, giving extra length for the swag of the chain.ĭrill a hole into the ceiling stud for the chandelier nipple that will screw into the mounting bracket. Or it will fall out and go boom… hopefully not on your head. Make certain you are marking it IN A STUD. Mark the location on the ceiling you want the chandelier to hang. You can, of course, adjust the length of each one by snipping the wire and the chain if you need one shorter than those. You need to add a little extra for the swag. We measured the distance from where we wanted the light to hang, over to the wall where a plug is, and then down to the plug. For our antique chandeliers, we always choose the antique brass color. They come in several colors: brushed nickel, polished brass, and antique brass. You need to start by purchasing a swag light kit in whatever length and color of chain you will need. I asked Deb to turn my chandelier into a plug-in so that I could still enjoy it!Īs long as your landlord doesn’t care about hanging pictures, etc, this is how we hang a chandelier without power in the ceiling. I decided I wanted a chandelier over our antique kitchen island (post coming soon on that fabulous piece) in the rental but there is no power there. Deb is at the point she can switch out a light in about five minutes. And, then hang the original fixtures back up in the rental when we leave. Rather than store all of them in boxes, we decided we would hang a few in the rental to enjoy them while we live here. ☹️ It was in our contract to take several of them from the house when we left. We went from the House on Winchester, which had chandeliers in EVERY room to a house without a single ONE. ![]() We have some creative ideas as how to keep it the same way since we won’t actually be on Winchester Street anymore. I say “ original” because so many of you have asked what we will do with our business name. ![]() We recently moved from the original House on Winchester into a rental house while we build our dream home. I have been compensated by Walmart for this post but, as always, all opinions are my own. This blog post is written in collaboration with Walmart. ![]()
